THE ASRAMAS |
|
Our Sastras say
that it is enough to have one or two children only for the continuance of the family.
Having thus enjoyed the life of a Grihastha, he hands over the management of his family to
his sons and
enters the next stage of life, namely Vanaprastha. Vana means forest and Prastha means
started.
At this stage he enters the forest.
He can bring his wife too to the forest, if she is willing to serve him in the forest.
Here, he joins the company of rishis, whose food-habits he follows and learns from them
the sacred truths about God.
A Vanaprastha completely forgets the pleasures and comforts of Grihasthasrama and trains
himself in Vairagya or absence of interest in the pleasures of life. |
