SRISAILAM

This legend is portrayed in stone in Srisailam. Here Lord Siva is shown as accompanied by two ganas carrying an umbrella and a tower, and a small boy in front carrying a begging bowl. The Damaruka and. the Trident is shown in his upper hand. Bhikshatana in whatever form he may be, is still the divine Lord, and he possesses divine beauty in his face and figure. So much so, when he reached the Darukavana forest, some of the Rishi-pathnis forgot themselves in contemplating on the divine beauty of the form of Lord Siva. This scene is also depicted here and the two conventional trees to the right of the panel denote that the incident took place in a forest, viz., the Darukavana.
