KIRATAMARJARESWARAM |
|
The legend goes
that once upon a time Goddess Ganga represented to Lord Siva that persons take bath in her
holy waters and dissolve their sins thus making her impure day by day. She wanted to get
rid of the increasing burden of others' sins. Lord Siva consoled her that if she
worshipped Kiratamarjareswarar at Gangaikondasozhapuram all the acquired sins would
disappear. The peculiar name made her inquisitive
and she wanted to know the details of mystery associated with the Shivalinga. Siva
explained that at Kailayangiri (Mount Kailas), Nandikeswara had two disciples named Kantha
and Mahakantha. He sent his two disciples for fetching some flowers for worshipping Lord
Siva. |
