KIRATAMARJARESWARAM

The cat, seeing the hunter, embraced the Shivalinga out of fear. The hunter took the cat to be a positive hindrance to his
concentration over the Shivalinga. The act of embracing the Lingam by a cat is considered an act of desecration and was not tolerated by the hunter. He immediately took up his bow and arrow and aimed at the cat and discharged a shaft, which accidentally hit the right flank of the lingam, and out, gushed a spiral of blood from the wound.

The cat was frightened at the sight of blood. To save its life, it jumped out of the temple precincts and came to the temple tank to quench the thirst caused by fright. The first touch of the water transformed the cat into its original form. The hunter on the other hand felt deeply penitent for hitting the Shivalinga instead of the cat. It is a most heinous sin or sacrilege to inflict a wound on God's person. The ominous danger was so great that the hunter NA as frightened out of his wits and wanted to engage himself in deep penance after a holy bath in the temple tank.
