PULLAVANESWARAM

The account of Subrahmanya given by the local people is interesting. In the year 1648 Dutch mariners were greatly attracted by the brilliant sight of the idol of Subrahmanya at Tiruchendur, which was probably made of five metals (Pancha Dhatu).

The idol looks as bright as gold. They thought the idol was made of pure gold. With the hope of getting a heavy quantity of gold, they stole the idol from Tiruchendur temple and took it aboard their ship.  As mysterious are the ways of God, the sailors had hardly reached half
the distance to their destination when the ship went on trembling and jolting in such a way that the tidal waves rushed into the
ship.
