The Goddess of this
temple is known as Soundaryanayaki and Ghoshambikai. It is said that Indra tried to carry
the Linga from this temple by tying it to his car. The Goddess heard the sound (ghosham)
and got alarmed, So she is known as Ghoshambikai.
At the southern side of the temple there is a stone construction resembling Indra's car
with wheels and spokes. The legend says that Indra brought Sambavati Amman in his car and
worshipped her at this temple. There is a small portion on the right side of the entrance
to Siva's temple where there is the idol of Sambavati Amman, worshipped even today. |
