PULLAVANESWARAM |
|
Being afraid, and
considering this unusual phenomenon as the action of Lord Subrahmanya, they threw the idol
overboard into the sea and saved their lives. The idol came floating and was recovered at
the confluence of River Kaveri with the sea, known as Kaveri- pattinam. In olden days,
Kaveripattinam was a great port of the Chola kings. There, they used to have a brisk
foreign
trade. The idol was recovered from the sea and installed in the near-by temple.
To this day, the idol has great lustre and appears to be as of gold. Particularly the Vel
is so bright and so artistically made to
perfection that it will bewilder the beholders as if it is just now brought from the
goldsmith's workshop. |
