TIRUVENGADU |
|
There are festivals
and celebrations throughout the twelve months of the year, but the period between
mid-February and mid-March which coincides with the Tamil month Masi is the most important
one. There are celebrations for 12 days and on the Twelfth Day the float festival is
celebrated in all grandeur in the Chandra Teertham.
This temple has an income of nearly 55,000 rupees per year and there are large landed
properties endowed by pious devotees. Some of the daily pujas are done by donations by the
rich Chettinad people.
There are some historical incriptions on the walls of the temple, which has been plaster
cast for study by theArchaeological Department. Some of these inscriptions throw light on
the early Chola Kings volumes chiefly dealing with Saiva Siddhanta. The authorities of the
temple are also conducting a religious school. |
