TIRUVENGADU |
|
Just as in
Tyagaraja's temple of Tiruvarur and some other places, the Navagrahas have been placed in
a single row facing the Lord. Among the shrines of Gods and Goddesses of lesser importance
situated within the premises of the temple, those of Aghoramurti, Mother Kali, Lord
Nataraja and Meikandar are held in great veneration.
Rivers Kaveri and Manikarnika run near the holy shrine of Lord Swetaranyeswara who is the
presiding deity of the place. The consort of the Lord is known as Brahma
Vidyanayaki and the shrines of both the Lord and the Devi have been constructed facing the
east. The posture in which the Nandi at the entrance to the Devi's shrine is installed is
peculiar. |
