TIRUVENGADU

Its ears face the shrine of Devi and the face is turned towards the shrine of Siva, implying there by that the heavenly bull is losing no time in transmitting messages from the Devi, and waits for further commands. This is a unique feature of the place.

The Nandi has nine wounds made with a spear. It is said that an asura called Marutwasura was a source of great trouble to the Rishis and other villagers of Tiruvengadu. At this temple, at the request of the Bhaktas, Siva' sent out Nandi, his Vahanam, to fight against the demons. The demons could not face Nandi and Nandi threw the asura over the sea and returned triumphantly.
