Not
giving up his hope of dissuading the old man, Markandeya told him: "You say that you
have nobody. So my daughter will have to prepare food and serve the same to you, if she
marries you. My daughter does not even know the taste of any food other than whaft is
procurable at a forest hermitage, nor does she know the process of cooking.
She does not know how salt is to be addedin
cooking; if perchance she forgets to add it, you will take offence and be annoyed. When
this omission is repeated you will not hesitate to punish her. If I come to know of it, I
will also get angry and curse you. This may createunpleasantness for both sides. At least
considering this, pray give up the idea of marriage." |
