But
the old man was not moved to change Iiis mind and was threatening to die. Not able to find
a solution, Markandeya wanted to worship his God, Narayana. So he went inside and began to
worship, requesting his God to find a solution for the problem. Then he wanted to know the
mind of his daughter. Pointing to the Brahmin, he told her that if he did not give her in
marriage, the Brahmin threatened to die before him. He said: "I am in a difficult
position. You should give out your mind". Bhoomi Devi,
assuming that she did not know anything said, "I am young and cannot agree to marry
him. If you force me, I shall die. This is certain."
Again the exalted Sage began to worship Narayana, exclaiming that none could save him from
this bondage. As the Lord alone
saves his worshippers, he should show a way out and save him from this trouble. He was
seeing his Lord's form in his mind's
eyes. When he opened them, after a long while, Markandeya was stunned to see Lord Vishnu
in youthful form, ready for marriage, with his hand extended for receiving the Kanya
Danam. |
