The
Lord said: "MaharshI, I appreciate your devotion very much. I am going to be your
son-in-law. You should give your daughter Bhoomi Devi to me in marriage now. As your
daughter is very young, she may not know to cook properly with salt. What sheprepares
without salt will be tasty for me. You, the greatest devotee, please give your daughter in
marriage to me and obtain whatever bons you desire".
Hearing this, Markandeya joyfully said: "My life's mission has been fulfilled. What
more than your darsan, shall I request? However, since you desire, I shall request three
things, viz., (1) marrying my daughter, you should always stay here at this place; (2)
this, forest should be known after me; (3) things prepared without salt, should be tasty
even for your devotees, Give me these three requests and give me salvation".
God granted the requests. "As I have come' from Vinnulakam (Vaikuntham) to this
place, as I like it, this place will be known as Tiruvinnagaram. As yourself and Tulasi
prayed for me here, this will be known as Markandeya Kshetram. and Tulasivanam.
Whoever stays here for a short while also gets whatever he desires. |
