Vitasoka
demonstrated his superhuman powers at the instance of the palace
immates. Every one was pleased and adored him with exceptional
veneration. When requested, he was granted permission to go to the
distant, hermitage beyond the frontiers of the Kingdom for
uninterrupted ascetic life. Though he chose to live far off in the
distance, he was ever very near to his loving brother, Asoka. For,
Asoka kept himself in touch with him and looked after his needs
timely. He supplied all - money, food medicines lavishly, wherever
needed and whenever prayed for.
As
Vitasoka professed the same faith of Asoka, he came closer to the
heart of Asoka, than before. Asoka desired earnestly his presence in
the palace itself. Decidedly two heads and four hands would double
up the missionary activities. So, an invitation was sent him to
visit Pataliputra and to remain there permanently.
