Vitasoka
turned down the same gently, pleading that a suitable place of
seclusion to continue his anchorite life could not be available at
the capital. Could Asoka stand such helplessness? Was it not a
challenge to his imperial powers over the two worlds? Obviously so.
He renewed his invitation to his brother with the assurance of an
ashram befitting his status. Vitasoka readily accepted and prepared
for his journey.
In
order to fulfill the promise made to his brother, Asoka tapped at the
source of superhuman powers. He summoned a powerful genii and said,
"I am happy to honour you with a feast on the eye of my
brother's visit to the capital. Kindly accept and attend it tomorrow
with your kith and kin. As I could not provide you all with seats,
please get each one a seat and oblige". The genii
was happy indeed and accepted the royal gesture unconditionally.
