After
visiting this group, the pilgrims go to other group of temples lying
at a short distance of a Kilometre and a half on the right bank of
Tungabhadra. They are dedicated to Papanatha and the construction is
attributed to Rastrakuta's munificent patronage. Among the temples,
the Papaneswaraswamy Alayam is in the middle. Its architectural
grandeur is comparatively less impressive, though the multipillared
halls and huge mantap enshrine many adorable deities. The sculptural
adornments represent many episodes. One pecularity observable here
is the carving of Navagrahas on the ceiling. The Saptamatruka shrine
and the niche enshrining the Mahishasura Mardini deserve visiting
for offering prayers. The temples dedicated to Channakesava swamy,
Suryanarayana swamy, Narasimha swamy are in the vicinity of
Navabrahma Alayas and they are visit-worthy.
