ALAMPUR

THIRTHAS

This kshetra is famous for its thirthas too. Though river Tungabhadra, the Uttarvahini is as sacred as Ganga, the famous thirthas here are attracting the pilgrims due to their association with divinities. The Papavinasini Thirtham situated near the Papaneswara Alayam is attracting more, due to the belief that a single bath in it is equal to the same merit as that of bathing in Ganga for one year. Sins will fly at once. Ganikasiddeswara Thirtham is another, and it is also associated with celestials like Gandharvas. A bath in this fulfills desires, and the achievement that eluded seeks if bathed. Hence attraction. Kubera performed penance here and was bathing regularly in a Thirtham, now called Rajarajeswara Thirtham. And he was blessed with the desired.
