ANTIQUITY
This
region with turbulent Godavari flowing fast, touching the high
Bhadragiri, rising above the primeval forest, over grown with thick
greenery and colourful verdure was an integral part of Dandakaranya
during the Tretayuga. It we then impenetrable and unfordable for
common folk for any purpose Exactly 30 km upstream the river
Godavari from the present Sri Rama shrine there lay the holy
parnasalas, built by Lakshmana for the divine couple at the time of
their sojourn in the down South to lifting the afflicted tapasvis
from the asurakrityas of Ravana and his hordes. Here they lived a
carefree life enjoying the Nature's bounteous hospitality till that
ominous arrival of Maricha in the form of golden deer at the command
of the earth and earthy lustful Ravana to luring away the divine
brothes for facilitating his easy abduction of Mother Sita. Albeit
extremely docile in nature, ever law-abiding in disposition and
modest in ambition, she not only sent her all loving spouse to fetch
that lovely deer, but bade Lakshman, the ideal brother to go to the
rescue of Sri Rama on hearing the piteous , but feigned notes of
"Ha Sita! Ha Lakshmana!", let out by Maricha to paving the
way for the descent of Ravana, that indeed inaugurated the
destruction of Lankarajya. Despite Lakshmana's persuasive appeals to
convince her about the safety and invulnerability of Rama's person,
Mother Sita caught up in the tight grip of capricious fate drove
Lakshman out of the Parnasala to give succour to Sri Ram, the
perennial source of ready succour to one and all.
