INTRODUCTION
Bhadrachalam,
What a name ! How resonant !! How somniferous!!! Aren't the
components seem soaked in spirituality 'Bhadra' stands for
auspiciousness and 'chalam' means mountain. It is indeed grand in
composition, dignified in meaning, and tuneful in symphony. Each
syllable with its drum like sound alerts even the Nidradevi-Morpheus
lost in deep sleep. So, say 'Bhadrachalam' a bit aloud and see! Even
the modern edition of Kumbhakarna too shaking his slumbering head a
little stretches his gaze to catch a full glimpse of Sri Rama, the
presiding deity of this place. That is the magic of this word, nay
music of that august name. Ha! how holy is then that combination!
Holier is the sanctum, and the holiest is the adored-Sri Ramachandra
the celebrated Adikavi's immortal creation, who surpassed every
hero, portrayed however masterly by any literary artist since the
dawn of creative faculty. Its hoary antiquity, historical
authenticity, religious sublimity are so entrenched in the hearts of
Ramabhaktas of Andhra Pradesh that nothing flashes across their
minds than this holy abode, whenever the glory of this son of
Dasaratha is brought to reminiscence for reverence. None can gainsay
the fact that such unique glory of this celebrated temple is
heightened by the sublime devotion of Kancherla Gopanna, an
illustrious mode mystic, for whose release Sri Rama descended,
donning servants dress. An unexaggerated tangible truth embedded the
pages of history and adorning the leaves of devotional literature of
every genre in general, and lyrics in particular.
