Velijala-Narasimhaswamy
Aalayam
The archamurti of this holy kshetra is Swayamvyakta -found in a cave like hollow space of a big boulder lying in the fore of
the Velijala village. Although it is possessing neither compound wall, nor essential parts like garbhagriha, courtyards,
mini-shrines etc., it is exercising great attraction on the asthika community, due to the belief current that the cave is
increasing in width year after year as exemplified by the vast space it has in its interior now. Moreover, there is another
boulder here bearing the foot prints of the Lord and it is said that the Lord rested here before entering the cave for
permanent dwelling.
The locals celebrate many annual festivals, like Narasimha Jayanti on a grand scale in addition to other important festivals,
like Gokulashtami and Dasara, though they are specially intended for other gods and goddesses.
This village boasts of many holy temples dedicated to Ranganatha; Siva and Anjaneya. The peculiar feature discernable
here is the existence of four Hanuman temple built in the northern direction holding great attraction and offering of several
types of pujas. During the Karthika masa, the Vysya community worship the Hanuman enshrined in the northern side. with
unusual zeal and some other sect of the same Vysya community offers worship to the Hanuman installed in a temple built in
the southern side. Strange are the traditions and strangest still is the solace that enwraps the devoted coming from the
strangest source.
It lies on the Kaluvakurti-Zcherla roadway of Palamur district of AP and accessible from these two towns commanding four
wheelers at all times.
