CIVILIZATION AND SOCIAL ISSUES

How Does Hinduism View the Ecological Movement?

True ecology means to recognize the Divine Self everywhere in the universe and allow its full unfoldment on all levels and in all creatures. The ecological movement is at least moving in the direction of respecting the sacred nature of all life and reconnecting us with the unity of life. Presently it represents one of the most idealistic and progressive side of the modern psyche.

However it is still often lacking in a spiritual perspective and while promoting a better ethical treatment of our environment, it does not always promote a higher standard of spiritual discipline for people and may follow amoral political values. Yet still Hinduism sees in it a great ally and an important trend of thought and awareness for the future.
