ANANDA: The essential delight of existence.

ANASUYA: Sage Atri's wife.

ANDAL: Consort of Ranganatha. The temple dedicated to her exists at Srivilliputhur. The tallest of gopurams of all the Southern temples is to be seen

ANDAM: The world. Literally it means round like an egg; figuratively used to symbolise the world.

ANI: Tamil month approximating to 16th June-15th July.

ANJALALNAYAKI: Goddess who gives shelter.

AP: Water.

APPAR: One of the 63 Saivite Saints.

APPULINGAM: Figurative existence of Lord Siva in the form of water, at Jambukeswaram.

ARADHANA: Invoking God by chanting hymns and offering oblations Worshipping.

ARCHANA: Chanting the 108 names or 1008 names of God and offering of flowers, tulasi, vilvam, saffron, etc.

ARDHANAREESWARA: The idol portraying half man and half woman alluding to Purusha and Prakriti i.e., male and female energies, necessary for creation.
