GLOSSARY

KADAMBAVANAM: Madurai temple was originally in a forest of Kadamba trees having sweet-scented yellow flowers of round shape.

KAILAS: The mountain abode of Lord Siva.

KALA: The time element: Yama.

KALAHASTI: A place in Chittoor District in Andhra State. Famous for the temple wherein there is Vayu Lingam.

KALASA: Metal or mud pot put on the top of gopurams.

KALI: Another name of Goddess Parvati in the aspect of annihilation.

KALI YUGA: The fourth of the Four Yugas, the current one.

KALPA VRIKSHAM: The heavenly tree which fulfils all desires.

KALYANAM: Marriage.

KAMADHENU: The heavenly cow which fulfils all desires.

KAMALAM: Lotus.

KAMANDALU: The vessel that sages hold in their hand while going on pilgrimage.

KANCHI: Another name of Conjeevaram.
