| In this temple a
big festival is celebrated every time when Saturn moves from one sign of the Zodiac to
another. It commemorates the release of King Nala from the clutches of Saturn. That
release he got only when he had his plunge in this temple tank and worshipped the Lord.
Saturn then promised to touch none that mentioned the name of Nala. A Marakata Sivalingam
is seen here kept in an iron safe inside Tyagaraja's shrine and worshipped daily. At the
time of festival procession, the different deities,Tyagaraja, Somaskandha and
Chandrasekhara, are taken out according to the codified procedure. |
