LORD HOYALESWARA OF HALEBIDU

Halebidu which came into existence as capital during Ereyanga shot up into eminence, and so the kings ruled from the twin capitals - Belur and Halebidu. The world famous Chennakesava temple at Belur was built by Bittideva and it immortalized him as a peerless builder. Vijayanarasimha, who succeeded Bittideva, held aloft the banner and surpassed his predecessors in building activity and it was then Halebidu temple was built. He brought under his heel a vast empire and filled it with temples. Later evil days fell on the dynasty, when Malikafur invaded during the reign of Ballala III. The glory departed leaving the empire in shambles - the king fled to Tonnur. His attempts to retrieve the lost kingdom having failed, he died in distant country.
