THE
BUILDER OF THE TEMPLE
The present
temple is said to have begun during Vinayadity's reign, took nearly a century to
take the present shape. And it is built in the memory of his father known as
Hoyaleswara, built it did not survive. According to inscriptions, the present
temple was built by Ketamalla, a valorous general of Vishnuvardhana in his
honour, in 1121 AD. Scholars differ
on this date and advance arguements refuting it. Leaving them to bask in the
warmth of heated arguements, if we enter the precincts, the builder feasts our
eyes and fills the souls with rare sculpture and grand archamurthis, which is
our main purpose now.
