It
is this archamurthi that is worshipped by Sun-god both in morning
and evening, testified by the falling of sun's rays on the linga
twice; it is here in this sacred temple, the Kalynotsavam of both
Siva and Vishnu are celebrated with great gusto and fanfare on the
same Vedika, same time every year during the Bhishma Ekadasi
festival lasting for about a week; it is this Lord Siva worshipped
by Sri Rama in the Tretayuga, and Arjuna in the Dwaparayuga, it is
the devotees of this Lord Siva, Srinatha Kavisarvabhouma
immortalised in his Bhimeswara Mahatmyam; it is with the blessings
of this Lord Siva, Vemulavada Bhimakavi struck terror into the minds
of mighty rules with his potent words that worked miracles; it is to
this archamurthi the renowned Chalukya Bhima constructed high
towers, massive prakaras, huge mantapas and mini-shrines inside, and
so the temple is fittingly called Bhimeswaralayam after him; it is
here in this temple precincts installed the icons of Vishnu and Siva
under a peepal tree in proof of this being a Harihara kshetra,
reverentially visited by both Vaishnavites and Saivites alike.
Renowned
for such Siva Vishnu sammelana, and being the seat of Parvathi in
the name of Manikyamba one of the eighteen manifestations of Mother
Sakti, and Lord Siva in his Jyothirlingaswarupa; this famous ancient
temple is occupying a prominent place among the temples of India.
