Unable
to swallow any more of the indiscreet derogatory verbiage, she burnt
herself in the yogagni enveloped her at request. When heard about
the untimely death of Sati, Lord Siva created Virabhadra and sent
him to blow up the entire yagasala and destroy Dhaksha - his
abode, nagara and everything. With the entry of Virabhadra, there
was pandemonium, when Suras too fled in all directions in such
consternation that many Gods carried their mounts, instead of being
carried by them - Kubera for instance carried his mount Nara.
Dhaksha and his aides were instanteneously sent to Yamaloka as first
contingent. Then appeared Lord Siva in his rudrarupa. The mere sight
itself dispatched Dhaksha like minds. Pitying the plight of Sati and
over - powered by grief, he began Thandavanritya with her corpse on
shoulder. As it progressed with the mounting of his ungovernable
anger, the whole universe shook, and the planets started drifting
out of their orbits, signifying the onset of Pralaya and destruction
of cosmos.
