ANTIQUITY
There
are several legends depicting the glory of this Sriparvata right
from the time of the appearance of Lord Siva here to grant boons to
a family of bhaktas of unusual kind that changed the primeval forest
area into a thirtha kshetra of global importance. As each event that
occurred here went on exuding devotional nectar, it developed
ultimately into a unique Saiva Kshetra that releases anyone from the
cycle of births and deaths with a mere darsan of the holy Sikhara,
whereas to get the same merit one has to sip the water of Kedara, or
leave his mortal frame at Kasi, or remember Arunachala, according to
sacred books. Why, by mere uttering of this name, along with Mainaka,
Meru, Gandanadana, one is redeemed of mahapapas, And above all, it
is sanctified by crores of thirthas, and lingas. The Mukkotidevatas
worship this Deity in their ethereal forms along with 94000 sages.
Hence the perennial attraction and unfazed charm. A quick glance at
a few episodes drives home the truth. A necessity at this stage.
