Here is one more. According to the local history, it is this that gave to the Lord Siva, the sonorous name of Mallikharjuna. It happened- Chandragupta the King of Chandraguptapuram situated, on the banks of Krishna was blessed with a beautiful daughter after devout prayers for santanaprapti. Soon after the birth of daughter, he was forced to leave his kingdom on military campaign; and it lasted for a long time. Returning to the capital after his digvijayayatra, he found to his astonishment in the palace an enchanting angel-like beauty in teens. This enticing beauty made his head reel, and he lost poise. Alas! she was no other than his own daughter called Chandravathi, who grew up into a blooming beauty in his long absence. Despite acquainted with the fact by his wife, and against protests by the daughter, he decided to quench his kamadaha. Sensing that her father was trying to accomplish his sinful lust with brute force, she fled to forest and reached this part.
