A
little more, particularly her past - 'When and How' she made
Indrakila her permanent abode seems quiet expedient at this stage.
According
to legend, there lived in this region, in the dim past two demons -
powerful and harmful. They obtained a strange boon of not meeting
death at the hands of males. So they were puffed up with pride. They
wrought havoc on sages by obstructing the nitya naimithika pujas -
the yagasalas were destroyed and performers put to death. There was
misery stationed in the asramavatikas, instead bf Santidevata moving
about with gaiety, spelling light and sweetness at her every step
making even the mild animals live side by side with ferocious wild
animals. Unable to withstand the atrocities the sages prayed to
Goddess Gowri. Pitying them, she created a powerful Goddess called
Kausika and entrusted her with the task of protecting the
Rishavatikas. She was a paragon of beauty, hypontising the onlookers
with a single look. The fame of her bewitching beauty spread far and
wide. Chanda Mundas - the preceptors of Sumbha Nisumbhas advised
them to marry her. They at once set the proposal in motion - sent a
message to accept them as spouses.
