VIJAYAWADA

There are numerous episodes that occurred in this region soaked in bhaktirasa. As a matter of fact, the river Krishna with its holy waters has been making the citizens of this Vijayapuri, immensely distinguished and reputed in every realm of human action. Illustrarious persons were born here to uphold the torch of Dharma burning ever bright. As if to replenish the devotional fervour, the river Krishna swells and flows to unprecedented heights once in every 12 years called Krishna Pushkaram, when people in lacs visit and bathe in the sacred waters for making lives blissful. And it is believed that there are many famous thirthas, like Chakra, Mutti, Sankha, Narasimha, Trisula, Indra and Rishi in the river itself. Their presence is heightening its potency. Hence the saying that with a mere look at the water, sins take to. flight. And a bath makes one sin-proof.

There are some more temples in the town equally famous and are receiving regular prayers. Among them Bramaramba Malleswara Alayam, called Sahastra Sthambha Devalayam is visit worthy. It is in the centre of town and in the same area, there are other temples like Nageswaraswamy, Kanyakaparameswarai, Venkateswara and Kodandarama swamy equally important and each has its own story. They are also held in high veneration and periodical festivals are celebrated to the deities with great eclat.
