Chenji
- Bhujangasayana Perumal Temple
This
is a historic town renowned for sturdy fortifications built over three hills,
and many battles were fought to protect them by heroic people from external
aggression. Though wars and ravages of weather have left their marks and showing
their former glory in ruins within the rampart walls and towers, there are here
and there some buildings, all but in faded glory. Among them the' Bhujangasayana
Perumal temple built on the Ranganathagiri is still luring both tourists and
theists perennially. Built in the Dravidian architectural style and adorned with
fine sculpture, its significance is not waned. The archamurti in the usual
reclining position true to its nature is extremely pleasant to sight and
magnificent in granting boons. There are many signs of royalty endowing it
lavishly with many useful things. Built over the top of the hill, and not
enjoying the metalled road, visitors do feel the ascent hard, but once they
reach the sannidhi, they
feel emancipated since the sight of the Moolavar with fine polish and dazzle
lifts them without their knowing.
It is 25 km off Tindivanam, a flourishing town of Tamilnadu, accessible by bus.
