Mylapore
- Kesavaperumal & Srinivasaperumal
Temples
These two ancient Vaishnava kshetras are situated in Mylapore, renowned for the
Kapaleeswar temple. The unprecedented popularity and ineffable glory attained by
the.latter, has in a way eclipsed these two Perumal temples, despite lying side
by side, and moreover to the north of the big tank. The place is specially
sanctified by the birth of Paey Alwar, whose ministrations and preaching's for
the regeneration of Vaishnavism are beyond description. Srinivasa Perumal temple
is said to have been built some two centuries ago. It is adjacent to Kesava
Perumal temple. It is conducting the Kainkarya activities regularly and
promptly, although luring comparatively lesser number of bhaktas. The other one
- Madhava Perumal temple is in Tiruvalakkeni, about 5 km off Mylapore. In all
these Nithyanaimithika agama worship is carried on with due veneration. Built
some centuries back, they contain all parts as they followed Silpa sastra
scrupulously.
They
are accessible by bus, taxi, auto and cycle rickshaw from Madras Central station
or bus stand.
