Papanasam
- Papavinasa Perumal Temple
This
temple's Moolavar - Papanvinasa Perumal acquired the epithet Papavinasa Perumal
due to purging of the sins of the adorers with a mere single darsan - says the
priest exuberantly with a pardonable pride, of course. The Goddess is called
Pankajavalli Natchiyar and the temple tank, Pundarika pushkarini. The Moolavar
is in standing posture, facing east. He gave darsan to Chola emperor on his
visit after subduing his formidable enemies, hankering for power and annexation
of kingdoms. The temple built in Dravidian architectural style adorns the
garbhagriha - with Papanasana Vimana Regular daily worship and Periodical
Utsavas are carried on with due devotion.
It
lies about a mile off Papanasam railway station near Kumbhakonam, commanding all
facilities.
