Poondamalli
- Varadaraja Perumal Temple
Though
not included in the 108 Divya tirupathis, this ancient Vaishnava kshetra is
enjoying a steady stream of visitors, in addition to locals, who are regularly
adorning this Lord with great devotional fervour. The shrine contains twin
sunnidhis - one for Varadaraja Perumal and another for Srinivasa Perumal. This
place is further sanctified by giving birth to Tirukachchi, one of the
illustrious pravaktas of Vaishnava cult. The temple built in the Dravidian
architectural scale and visited by town elite is maintained properly and the
nityanaimithika worship is also carried on a scale exemplary to the extent of
satisfaction of temple going theists. The Mother is called Pushpakavalli Tayar
and is installed in a imposing minishrine. This town is known by another name as
Puravindamalli also.
It
is on the Madras-Bangalore National Highway at a distance of nearly 20 km off
Madras commanding all transport and boarding facilities, since it is an upcoming
sub-urban town.
