Unless
Hindus as a whole are prepared for this they are bound to create
more difficulties for themselves. If they are prepared they can
become a great force in positive change in humanity.
In
this regard the greatest enemies of a modern Hindu revival are
neither the West nor Islam but passivity and disunity among Hindus
themselves.
Hindus still emphasize their own local and sectarian
differences over any unitary culture. They are like a family
fighting among itself that is unable to meet external challenges,
even if these are not difficult to overcome if they stand together.
Hindus have what is probably the most
developed culture in the world in terms of spirituality, religion,
art, philosophy and language. If they promote and share their
culture it will not simply survive the clash of cultures but become
a positive force for the elevation of true culture, now in decline,
all over the world.
Hindu Dharma does not require that any one
culture triumphs over all the others. It rather seeks an integration
of all that is good in human culture according to the spiritual urge
that is our deepest soul and humanity. This is the importance of
Hindu Dharma in the clash of cultures. But unless Hindus take up the
challenge even an inferior culture will easily defeat them.
In any case the clash of cultures
cannot be avoided. It is like a new churning of the cosmic ocean.
Unless the Gods take their part in this drama the real creation and
all of its secret wonders cannot come forth. |
