I first met Ashok Chowgule in Mumbai in 1992, at
the time that the Babri Masjid was demolished by Hindu groups. He
came from a wealthy industrialist family but chose to devote his
time to the VHP, eventually becoming the head of the organization
for Maharashtra. Dr. Vashta first introduced me to him and
encouraged our association.
Ashok quickly took to the cause of promoting Hindu
points of view through the media and through the internet, through
the website of Hindu Vivek Kendra. He put some of my books and
articles on line as well. Such media work is crucial for bringing
Hinduism into the computer age where its point of view needs to be
expressed. Otherwise anti-Hindu distortions will uncritically be
perpetuated.
