Becoming a Pandit

In 1996 I received the Brahmachari Vishwanathji Award in Mumbai, which recognized me as a Pandit and Dharmacharya. The award came from Masur Ashram, which had five years earlier given my Hindu name.

This award formally took me from being a Hindu to being a Hindu teacher. It also came from Vashta’s to help promote my work further. Such ceremonies empower a person, affording the support of a broader community so that one is not simply proceeding on one’s own.
