With
its high altitude and salubrious climate, this taluq headquarters
town of Chittoor district is enjoying a-covetable place in the
cultural map of Andhra Pradesh. The world-renowned Besant
Theosophical College and the lone Summer resort of the entire state
- Horsley Hill have catapulted its importance to a commendable
degree, exciting jealousy to the similar towns in the state. It has
earned a good name for possessing very many spiritual institutions,
like Sivaalayas, Anjaneya temples, Vaishnavalayas, Ramakrishna
asrams, Saibaba mandirs, Raghavendraswamy mutts etc. etc. etc. All
are regularly visited and soulfully adored. They are but in the town
limits only.
Among
them, the Venkateswara temple located on the bank of river Bahuda,
surrounded by houses and business establishments has of immense
importance, gained by the multifarious devotional activities it is
carrying on round the year. Due to its location, it is visited by a
steady stream of visitors regularly in the mornings and evenings.
There are many mini-shrines installed with adorable deities in the
campus. The archamurti in standing posture adorned elegantly by the
expert priests with dazzling jewels and colourful garlands cast an
enchantment on the visitors. Agamic worship is offered with great
fervour by the devout priests to the satisfaction of bhaktas. The
annual car festival lasting for about a week lures lakhs of devotees
and the temple's fame reaches its zenith.
It
lies in Madanapalli, the taluq head quarter of Chittoor district of
Andhra Pradesh. It is accessible by walk or rickshaws from the bus
stand.
