HOW THE RAMAYANA WAS BORN |
|
So much so it
is called Adi Kavya, meaning the first great poem and Valmiki, Adi Kavi or the first great
poet.
In that poem Valmiki has described the story of Rama, the best of the Raghu race, and his
destruction of the ten-headed
Ravana, with all the graces of perfect poetry.
The book consists of seven cantos and is written in the Anushtubh metre. In all, it has
24,000 verses representing the 24 letters of the Gayatri.
Its recital in the proper manner has been known to endow good fortune and ward off
untoward happenings in our lives. The lessons of the
Ramayana are more relevant than ever today. |
