KEYS TO THE AWAKENING OF BHARATA |
|
Reviving the
Soul of the Nation A country is really only the
body for the soul of the Nation. The soul of the nation is Bharat Mata, Mother India, not
simply as an abstraction or sentiment but as a psychic force, a Devata. This soul must be
honored again. The soul of India exists primarily in Indian culture or Bharatiya
Samskriti. This in turn has its roots in the Sanskrit language, which must be revived,
much like how the Hebrew language has been revived in Israel, to awaken the deeper
potentials of the nation. Sanskrit should again be made the national language and
turned into a vehicle, not only for study of the past, but for the development of the
future. Awakening the soul of the nation also means defending Bharat Mata against the
assault of Western civilization and its anti-spiritual values and from Western religions
and their spiritual ignorance, which do not even understand the law of karma.
India need not become anti-Western in this process
but must become discerning of cultural forces and protect its own higher culture against
influences that are lower, even if these arise from the supposedly more progressive part
of the world. The pop commercial Western culture that is invading India is also being
criticized by the higher minds in the West as vulgar and devoid of spiritual values.
Indians should challenge this culture as well. Of course there will be those who say that
reviving the soul of India will be offensive to religious minorities and that therefore in
interests of social harmony this should not be done. Such was the same attitude of pity
that caused Arjuna to throw down his weapons on the battle field of Kurukshetra.
India needs a Krishna to cut through such pity and get Hindus to fight in this clash of
cultures that is happening all over the world in this information age.
