DHARMIC PHILOSOPHIES : THEORIES
OF TRUTH |
|
Philosophy
in the New Age
We see that there is nothing in these systems which is necessarily contradictory to the
others, unless we are overly insistent upon the semantics of the presentation. Today we
are living in an age of synthesis and reconciliation. We are no longer aiming at
sharpening the intellect but increasing its grasp and moving beyond it. From this
perspective philosophy must take on a new orientation. The philosophical age is over. What
we need today is a new age of practical experimentation in the spiritual realm based upon
an attitude of openness, freedom and a non-insistence upon any names or forms of the
mind.
The mind in its active mode is not the instrument of spiritual knowledge. Truth perception
requires passivity of the mind. It is this which we must give priority to. While spiritual
philosophies can help train our minds and give us an idea of what is to be accomplished we
must be willing to set them aside to go to the real truth which no words can ever describe
or delimit, positively or negatively.
