COSMOLOGY: THE MULTIDIMENSIONAL UNIVERSE |
|
The Three Bodies
According to Vedic science the human being consists of three bodies.
Through them and their indwelling consciousness we contain the entire
universe and all its seven levels. Vedic cosmology is also Vedic psychology as all the
universe is within us. Worlds exist only for the experience of the souls
karmically tied to them.
The food and breath sheaths make up the gross or physical body, sthula
sharira. The breath, emotion and intelligence sheaths make up the subtle or astral body, sukshma
sharira. The intelligence and bliss sheaths make up the causal body,
karana sharira.
Hence between each body is an intermediate principle shared by each.
Breath mediates between the astral and the physical. Intelligence, the
power to ascertain truth and falsehood, mediates between the causal and the astral. Bliss is also a dual principle and mediates between the causal body
and the inner Self, whose nature is Being-Consciousness-Bliss,
Sacchidananda.
