SUCHINDRAM |
|
Reaching the
Himalayas, he started a yajna to propitiate the devas. All of them appeared excepting the
King of the devas and the Trimurtis. He continued his prayer with greater devotion and
Devendra appeared. Because the Trimurtis were not present, Atri Maharshi continued his
prayer and the performance of the yajna. The Trinity wished to put the Maharshi to a
severe test and they summoned the services of Narada, the holy wanderer of the three
worlds, to hinder the yajna. Narada could
successfully tackle any problem in all the three worlds and would also run errands for
holy purposes. In this case, he wanted to show the power of chastity to the world. When
the Trinity ordered him to hinder the yajna, he told them that it was a very difficult
task but that he would yet try. He then laid out his scheme to prevent Atri from
continuing his yajna and at the same time show to the world the power of chastity. Narada
did this also to humble the pride of the three Goddesses Parvati, Lakshmi and
Saraswati. |
