| The devis were
offended at this and asked Narada who that lady was that had accomplish such an impossible
task. Narada revealed to them the name of Anasuya, the wife of Atri Maharshi, and told
them that so long as Anasuya was living on earth, nobody could consider hl-r self the
chastest. These poignant but true words of Narada made them jealous of Anasuya. They
sought the help of Narada himself to try Anasuya’s chastity. Narada said that though
their request was impossible, yet, if their husbands tried, something might be done. So,
he advised them to seek the help of their respective husbands, who are the Lords of the
Universe. Accordingly, the Devis waited for the
arrival of their Lords and on their return, narrated the cause of their unhappiness and
prayed ‘to their help. Unable to refuse the requests of their consorts, the Trinity
promised to help them and started on their mission. |
