MOOKAMBIKAI KOIL KOLLUR

SANKARA PITHAM

This is a highly venerated stone slab, enshrined in a special structure in the inner prakaram of the temple. It is said that Adi Sankara stayed here for sometime, meditating on MOTHER Parasakti during his digvijaya yatra. MOTHER Mookambika appearing then in his dream, asked him to install her in this sanctum. He obeyed the divine injunction at once. The place where he got that divine command is now worshipped with special rituals during Navaratri, lasting for 9 days. This is closed after that final festival.
