MOOKAMBIKAI KOIL KOLLUR

HISTORICITY

From the inscriptional evidence, it is adduced that this present temple was built by Venzanna Samanthar, the nephew of Banki royal family of Nalkai. Another evidence testifies to the fact of vast agricultural lands endowed to the temple by Dhora Benkata Naik. Queen Chennamma of the Kaladi kingdom was great adorer of this Mother. She did help Rajaram, son of Chatrapati Shivaji during his skirnishes against Aurangazeb, and with the Queen's aid alone he gave a crushing defeat to Moghuls, and that queen drew sustenance from the grace of Mother Mookambika. Many others adorn the pages of this temples history. Several other accounts reveal numerous precious objects donated by philanthropists and beneficiaries.
