As misfortune would have it, its normal quiet routine life, over flowing with celestial concord was again marred after a long period by the entry of Mahishasura in the Kritayuga itself. Satisfied with its strategic importance by the cresent shaped ghats amidst majestic, colorful bounteous Nature, he established his kingdom here. Sooner than making it his capital, he inaugurated the reign of terror. Devendra, along with the affected went to the Trio. They directed them to solicit MOTHER Parasakti meditating on the Kutachandri Hill. Listening to the soulful appeals and tearful tales, MOTHER Parasakti descended on Mahishasura with such terrible form and ungovernable rage that he was destroyed at once, despite utilization of unbounded asurasakti. Gratified gods installed Srichakra enshrining the infinite powers of MOTHER in the temple in the august presence of the TRIO for the benefit of mankind. Miracles that occurred in the lives of ardent worshippers cemented faith in the Omnipotent MOTHER, and gradually it acquired equal status with Saktipithas and became one of the most visit-worthy Kshetras.But, soon their troubles seemed to be in the offing; for it was reported that Kamshasura's ghora tapa was rewarded fittingly, and he would be coming down to wreaking vengeance on all, on a scale unheard of.
