| It is not the ego that chooses its
incarnation. It is the soul. It determines these not by an action of will or thought as is
known to us but by the natural impulse of its energies and aspirations. The soul
does not cognize name and form. It does not say, 'let me be born in a
poor family in China and work my way up as a doctor.' It moves according to the current of energy it
projects and from that the particular circumstances of the birth arise. Many of the versions of rebirth and after death states we find presented in various books and teachings are products of the imagination of people. The soul is presented like a person reviewing his past actions and planning his future according to some master plan. They only serve to encourage the manipulating a actions of the mind not to bring us into the state of peace and natural spontaneous harmony. The true soul is beyond the mind and does not function through thought. It envisions things but as an unfoldment of the heart not a structure of the mind.
